Beasy Gait Belts
A gait (or transfer) belt can be used to assist a patient during a transfer, while allowing the caregiver to have a safe and sturdy grip. It can be used as a standard gait belt, around the patient’s chest for lifting, or around the patient’s waist for transferring with a Beasy transfer board. Gait belts may also be used around the caregivers waist, so patients have a place to grip onto when they are being assisted.
Unlike classic gait belts, our premium padded gait belts give extra support and comfort for patients, while caregivers ambulate or assist transfers. Its ½” thick padding is more sensitive to skin and tender areas. Transferring a patient with a strong proper hold can help the caregiver avoid back and leg injuries. Each belt comes with horizontal hand grips, and a 2” fast open/close clip buckle, to accommodate added security while safely guiding, assisting or transferring patients.

Using A Gait Belt Safely
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recommends several best practices for using a gait belt. In all cases, make sure the belt is snug but not overly tight — two fingers should fit between the belt and your patient — and securely fastened so that the resident won’t undo it while being moved.
Please obtain approval from the patient’s physician prior to using a gait belt. Recent surgery or other medical conditions may prevent the use of a gait belt.
Proper clothing and non slip footwear should be worn by the patient, and the caregiver should be in good physical condition while performing transfers.*Clothing may be needed under a gait belt for patients with tender skin. Caregivers should make sure they are in good enough physical condition to assist in any transfer. If you have questions about safe use of a gait belt, please ask your doctor or physical therapist.
